Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Sites. The full day of drop-in fun for all ages will connect visitors with local marine ecosystems and inspire them to take action to ensure healthy oceans for future generations. During scheduled activities they will learn about coastal wildlife and the powerful story captured in the Coast Salish art A Mother’s Love, which tells the story of the mother killer whale who carried her stillborn calf for days.

All-day drop-in programs include these highlights:

 

  • Learn about tide pools, killer whales, and how otters help kelp – Take part in Parks Canada programs about biodiversity and conservation Super Sea Otters to the rescue, Forts for Fishes, Match the Patch, Look, Listen, Whale, and Wheely Important Ecosystems.
  • Scheduled activities – Performance by lək̓ʷəŋən Dancers at the Whale Trail at 2:30 p.m., and a guided walk led by Special Bird Service at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
  • Community booths – Browse displays and learn from local organizations, including the Capital Regional District, the Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea, Special Bird Service, Ocean Networks Canada, Vancouver Island Trail Association, and more.
  • Make a poster – Unleash your creativity and create a poster with Parks Canada Southern Resident Killer Whale outreach team. Templates, whale stencils, and dot markers make this a quick, easy activity for all ages.
  • Ice cream – Come to the Canteen for our Sweet History program and treat yourself a scoop of delicious, locally made ice cream from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.

Regular admission fees apply ($9.00 per adult, $7.50 per senior, and free for youth 17 and under)
