Just a short ferry ride from Victoria is a series of small islands called the ‘Canadian Gulf Islands’.

For something very different and memorable, take a ferry ride to one of the many Gulf Islands. Ferry service is daily through BC Ferries and most leave from the ferry terminal at Swartz Bay (Sidney) . For some of the more out-of-the-way islands – check their website for sailing times for each particular island.

During the summer there is a farmers market each Saturday where you’ll find some very unique gifts, food and entertainment. And be SURE to make the drive up to Mt. Maxwell … the views are stunning!

There isn’t a lot of visitor accommodations on Salt Spring, but check here for some ideas for cottages, B & B’s, campgrounds, hotels etc.

Georgina Pt. Lighthouse

Most of the other islands are smaller and not as geared to tourists. They’re still worthy of a look, including: Saturna (vineyards and a few shops and crafts), Mayne (cool lighthouse), and Pender (be aware there’s a North Pender and a South Pender Island!) with some good walking trails.
