A Visit to Victoria Butterfly Gardens

Victoria Butterfly Gardens isn’t just about butterflies; in fact, it is a complete tropical rain forest experience from the beautiful tropical gardens with over 200 species of tropical plants including carnivorous plants, to the beautiful ponds and streams teaming with Koi, waterfalls and bridges, free flying tropical birds, gorgeous Caribbean Flamingos, turtles, iguanas and more!! It is a wonderfully pleasant place to just wander around and enjoy the beautiful sights, the warm tropical atmosphere and the scents of a tropical jungle.

The environment of Victoria Butterfly Gardens is computer-controlled to maintain the temperature, light, mist, cooling and humidity of the 12,000-square-foot (1,100 m²) garden. There are thousands of butterflies in the gardens with up to 70 species of butterflies and moths that fly, eat and lay eggs freely inside the facility. You can view the hundreds of different chrysalis in the nursery window and if you’re lucky you will even see a butterfly emerging.

New to Butterfly Gardens in 2017 is the Insectarium. Insects from all around the globe are now on exhibit in this beautiful display showing these fascinating creatures in a vibrant jungle like setting.

If you’re a photo buff you will love the colourful butterflies and birds especially the Eclectus Parrot who took a distinct liking to Visitor in Victoria’s Linda and loved following her around the gardens and landing on her shoulder. Photo Tip: There is a blow drier near the entrance to warm your camera lens before you get started, which will help stop your lens from fogging in the warmth and humidity of the gardens.
