As Victoria is on an island, the only way to visit in your car is via one of the ferries … either a BC Ferry from the mainland (Vancouver) or a ferry from the U.S.A – either Port Angeles, WA, Anacortes, WA, or Seattle, WA. There is NO bridge or tunnel!
So it can sometimes take a bit of planning to come over! You’ll need to make sure when the ferries are sailing and if they’re full/delayed etc. A good idea if you know when you’ll be coming is to make a reservation on the sailing you intend to catch.
Please see the post on getting here by waterfor more info and details on various ferries and their schedules.
I've lived in Victoria over 30 years and I still can't believe how great this city really is! My husband, Bruce, and I have traveled the world but coming home to Victoria is still quite often a celebration. Together, we want to share our love of the city and the area by giving you an 'insider's' insights of where to go - what to do - and how to get there!
Hi Peter, I’m understanding you want to just ship your car to Vancouver Island? As far as I know, you’d have to contact a moving company or a freight company and ask that question. I have no knowledge of that. The only way I know of getting a car to Vancouver Island is to drive it on to a ferry … either from Port Angeles (The Coho) or drive to Tswassen and take that ferry (BC Ferries). There is no ferry directly from Seattle to Victoria. Hope this answers your question. Cheers! linda
Linda, wondering what the difference in cost and time to either drive from Stanwood to Vancouver and take a ferry to Victoria or to take a ferry from Port Angeles and take a ferry. Any help would be appreciated.
