A Driving Tour from Victoria

To Duncan and Chemainus, BC

If you’re looking for other things to do within a day’s drive from Victoria, consider driving up the famous ‘Malahat’ (Highway #1 North) with it’s spectacular scenery.   Be sure to stop at the viewpoint at the top … just beautiful!

Along the way (approximately 56 km from downtown Victoria) you’ll come on to a cool spot called Whippletree Junction with some neat shops and yummy ice cream. Then on up to the town of Duncan (only a few miles more) to see the totem poles and visit their vibrant downtown. A good restaurant to check out in Duncan is called Craig Street Brew Pub which is a pub-style restaurant with really good food and beer!

Near Duncan is the Pacific Northwest Raptor Centre which is a wonderful attraction for all ages. They

have an impressive selection of birds of prey and put on shows with many of them daily. If you like you can also wander around the grounds looking at all the marvelous birds.

Another attraction is the B.C. Forest Discovery Centre with displays of logging on Vancouver Island as well as a cool train ride for the kids (or kids at heart)!

Further on you’ll find the town of Chemainus (approximately 80 km from downtown Victoria). A former mill town that defied ‘death’ when the logging industry declined by re-inventing itself as the town with murals. There’s a nice walking path around town that leads you to the numerous murals and thru some interesting shops and restaurants.
